Choose a task with a clear finish
Agent-assisted planning is easiest to evaluate when the task is bounded: draft a work breakdown from accepted requirements, suggest missing risk questions, or prepare a status narrative from reviewed records. Specify the inputs, expected output, and reviewer. A vague instruction to manage the program provides little basis for judging correctness or deciding who is accountable for the result.
Make the input boundary visible
Use the relevant initiative and approved sources. Record which information is incomplete and avoid assuming the assistant has access to every enterprise system. An output based on a limited source set should say so. Data permissions and source freshness matter as much as the drafting instruction; a convincing answer can still be wrong if the context is incomplete.
Separate a proposal from a commitment
A proposed task sequence is not an approved plan. A suggested mitigation is not an accepted risk response. Keep human authority explicit for dates, budgets, ownership, external communications, and approvals. Reviewers need to see assumptions and dependencies alongside the suggestion. Start with drafting and analysis before considering actions that change shared records or create commitments.
Evaluate failed suggestions
Build a small set of examples with known constraints and ask the assistant to handle missing data, conflicting dates, and ambiguous responsibility. Measure correction effort and the seriousness of mistakes, not just how quickly a draft appears. Keep a route to complete the workflow when assistance is unavailable. Repeated failure on a class of task is a reason to narrow the task or improve the sources.
